Buyback

Stop paying to destroy them. Let us pay you instead.

Empty totes in a corner are a cost: storage, crushing fees, disposal tickets, and a forklift operator's afternoon. We turn that cost into a cheque. You tell us what you have, we quote per unit delivered or picked up, and the paperwork is ours to chase.

01 / WHAT WE BUY

If it held something and you can tell us what, we are interested

  • 275 and 330 gallon caged composite IBC totes, any grade
  • Food-history single-trip units — our highest-value input by a wide margin
  • Stainless steel IBCs in any condition
  • 55, 30 and 15 gallon poly and steel drums by the pallet
  • Cages and pallets with no bottle at all
  • Damaged units destined for resin recovery, priced as scrap

What we cannot take

  • Anything without a written prior-cargo declaration
  • Units that held cargo meeting the RCRA hazardous waste criteria
  • Containers with residual liquid of any volume
  • Units that held essential oils, flavour concentrates or citrus terpenes
  • Anything with a compromised or unreadable UN marking and unknown history

That first rule is absolute and it costs us deals every month. We learned it in 2010 from twelve totes described as “just soap.” The story is on our history page.

What you get

  • Quote turnaround1 business day
  • Payment termsNet 10, or on collection
  • Pickup costIncluded above 20 units
  • Dock labourOur driver loads
  • DocumentationWe prepare, you sign

Smaller quantities

Under six units, bring them to 3201 N Shadeland Ave during yard hours and we will grade and pay on the spot. Saturday mornings are by appointment only — mention it in the form and we will confirm a slot.

02 / PROCESS

Five steps, no surprises

How a buyback actually runs

01

You describe

Count, cargo, condition, ZIP, access constraints.

02

We quote

Per-unit price, pickup window, paperwork list.

03

We schedule

Usually paired with an outbound delivery in your region.

04

We collect

Driver loads, counts with your dock, signs the manifest.

05

You are paid

Net 10 by ACH, or on the spot for yard drop-offs.

What moves your price up or down

How much is a used tote worth?

Between scrap value and a meaningful two-figure sum per unit, depending on grade, prior cargo, volume and your distance from Indianapolis. Food-history units in clean condition sit at the top; stained Grade C units with an awkward cargo sit at the bottom. The price factors page breaks down every variable we actually use.

Do I need to clean them first?

No, and please do not — a partial clean can make residue harder for us to identify. Drain them completely, cap the valve and the lid, and leave the rest to us. Residual liquid is the one thing that will get a load refused at the dock.

We only have four. Is that worth your time?

For a pickup, not usually — the freight swamps the value. For a yard drop-off, absolutely. We buy single units at the dock every week.

Can you take them off a standing schedule?

Yes. If you empty twenty or more a month, the tote pickup program puts you on a route with a fixed day and a standing price, which is better for both of us.

B / FITTINGS

What threads onto it

Fittings, threads and seat materials

S60x6 is a buttress thread that seals against a flat gasket face, not on the thread flanks. It is not interchangeable with NPT — forcing one into the other is the commonest hidden fault in used containers.

The valve body rarely fails. The seat does, and it is chosen by cargo rather than by price. Always verify against your specific concentration and temperature.

E / GRADING

A grade is a promise, not a mood

How every unit is scored

We publish the whole system because a grade without written criteria is just an opinion with a price tag. Nineteen points, fixed thresholds, one card per unit, seven years on file.
Every unit is scored against all nineteen. A single critical failure condemns the unit regardless of how the other eighteen score.

G / PITFALLS

Learned the expensive way

Five mistakes that cost people money

Not hypothetical. Each of these has arrived in our inbox, usually more than once.
  1. Ordering a 330 without measuring the ceiling

A 275 and a 330 share a footprint; the 330 is seven inches taller. Two 330s stacked is 110 inches against 96 for two 275s, and most sprinkler regimes want eighteen inches of clearance below the deflector. That seven inches is frequently the whole margin.

  2. Forcing an NPT fitting into an S60x6 port

Both are roughly two inches, so it bites and feels tight. It is not sealing, it is chewing the buttress thread. The joint weeps two days later, usually in transit, and cross-threading is one of the few faults that condemns an otherwise perfect bottle.

  3. Reusing a flange gasket

A gasket is a one-use part the moment it has taken a compression set. Reusing one is the cause of most 'the new valve still leaks' emails we get. They cost a couple of dollars. Keep a box at the fill point.

  4. Specifying a solid lid on a tote that sees sun

Sealed container, rising temperature, nowhere for the expansion to go. The bottle bulges between the cage bars and does not fully return. A vented lid is the cheapest risk control in this industry.

  5. Ignoring specific gravity

A full 275 of water is 2,435 lb. The same tote of UAN 32 is 3,168 lb, and a 330 is 3,785 lb. Plenty of lift-gates are rated at 2,500 or 3,000 lb, and the rating assumes a centred load.

F / END OF LIFE

Reuse first, recycle last

What happens when the container is finally finished

Every unit that arrives is assessed down this list, in this order. 99.4% of incoming mass avoided landfill in 2024, and reuse plus repair accounted for over three quarters of it.
Assessed in this order, per unit, every time. The granulator is the fourth choice, not the first. 2024 figures against 2,994,000 lb of inbound mass.

Your corner, cleared. Our pad, filled.

Empty containers in a fire lane are a cost — storage, crushing, disposal tickets and a forklift operator's afternoon. We turn that into a cheque and take the paperwork with us.
